How often should my HVAC system be serviced?

Your HVAC system should be serviced twice a year - one service for your AC and one service for your furnace or heater.

Here in Louisville, we have hot summers and cold winters. So your HVAC system will get quite a bit of use year-round. As such, it’s ideal to schedule your AC service during spring, and your furnace service during fall.

How often should I change my HVAC system’s air filter?

On average, your air filter should be changed once every 90 days (or 3 months). That said, it doesn’t hurt to check your filter once a month to make sure it’s still clean. If you have pets or are prone to allergies, you may need to change your air filter every 60 days (or 2 months).

If you don’t change your air filter this frequently, your HVAC system will get strained due to a lack of proper airflow. This can lead to higher energy bills, more wear and tear, and costly HVAC repairs.

How do I change my air filter?

If you haven’t changed your air filter before, don’t worry; it’s very easy to do!

Simply follow these steps:

• First - locate the air filter in your home. It’ll be located behind a return register in your ceiling, wall, or in the HVAC unit.
• Second - take note of the three numbers (ex. 16x20x1) on the side of the filter and purchase a matching filter from your local hardware store. The MERV rating should be between 8-11.
• Third - replace the filter.

What are the common causes of uneven heating or cooling in my home?
