Spring HVAC Use: The Do’s and Don'ts
Get ready for spring and steady air conditioning flowing in your home. Our Wilmington A/C pros made a list of the do’s and don’ts of spring-time HVAC use.
Don’t Forget the Furnace
Just because the weather is heating up it doesn’t mean that nightfall won’t get cold. You may not use the furnace as often as you do in the winter months but your home’s heater should still work and work well. Don’t get stuck with a chilly house because you’re tempted to wait until next season to repair wear and tear on your system.
Reprogram Your Thermostat
Programmable thermostats are very common in Wilmington homes. Just by having one, you can save up to 10% on your HVAC costs, according to the U.S. Department of Energy. You want to know how? Simply program your thermostat to a 7-10 degree Fahrenheit change for part of the day or while you’re at work.
During the springtime and summer, you will need to raise the temperature to limit energy use and in the wintertime, you will need to drop the temperature to reduce the workload on your furnace. Little seasonal changes can really impact the overall use of your HVAC system, especially in the Carolinas.
Clean Your Unit
Homeowners tend to let their yard go during the cold winter months. While they are cozy inside, leaves and debris have gathered in and around their AC system’s outdoor condenser unit. Has your yard become overgrown? Is your condenser muddy and dirty? Now is the time to clean and clear your yard so that the AC system can function the way it was designed to.
