Summer Safety Tips to Keep You Comfortable
May is known for Mother’s Day, Cinco de Mayo, and May Flowers. May is also National Comfort Month and Aire Serv has some cool summer safety tips to help you stay comfortable in the summer heat.
-
Don’t overheat your house.
Use heat-generating appliances like ovens, washers, dryers, and dishwashers in the evening. If you use these appliances in the middle of the day when it’s hottest outside, your cooling system will have to work even harder to cool your home. -
Dress for the weather.
Lighter-colored clothing will reflect sunlight, which will ultimately keep your body cooler during hot days. Avoid wearing dark or layered clothing. Instead, try wearing light colored clothing made of thin materials. -
Stay hydrated.
Water is very important during the summer months. Stay comfortable by drinking plenty of water and staying in the shade as much as possible. Relaxing in a pool is another way to stay cool and hydrated. If you exercise, make sure you are well hydrated and take plenty of cool-down breaks. -
Keep the air moving.
Make sure you turn on a fan to circulate airflow. Even warmer air will become tolerable if it’s circulated. If you work in a shop or garage make sure air is being circulated to help keep you comfortable. A building with no airflow can heat up quickly causing discomfort to those working inside. -
Get dirty early.
Do yard work in the early morning hours before the sun starts to heat everything up. If you work outside in the afternoon hours, make sure you alternate between light and heavy duties, drink plenty of water, and take breaks in the shade.
These summer safety tips from Aire Serv will keep you comfortable during National Comfort Month and the hot summer months.
