When you’re researching different HVAC companies, there are certain things that should throw up a red flag in your mind and notify you of possible suspicious business practices. Unusually Low Prices

We all like to get the most bang for our buck, but choosing a contractor simply because they offer the lowest price may not be the best decision for your home. Just remember, you usually get what you pay for, and if you make the wrong choice, you could end up paying even more in the future.

Inability to Answer Your Questions

When a technician is assessing the condition of your HVAC system, ask a lot of questions. The wrong HVAC company will likely just tell you what needs to be fixed with no explanation as to what the cause of the problem is. A good contractor will not hesitate to answer your questions and will answer them truthfully, making sure you’re getting the service you need and deserve.

Giving a Quote Over the Phone

While getting a quote over the phone for repairs of your system may seem convenient, it is not something you will see in a good HVAC contractor. Servicing or replacing your HVAC equipment is a very complicated task. In order to properly assess any issues you’re having, a thorough inspection must be done. Only then can a contractor give you an accurate and fair quote for the work that needs to be performed on your system. Also, make sure to ask for a written estimate. They will be less likely to apply additional charges afterwards if the quote is in writing. If the company is hesitant to do so, this could be a red flag.

Lack of Experience

Having a new company service your system might be a cheaper option, but having a technician with experience who has seen anything and everything that can cause problems in HVAC equipment is a better choice for your home. Don’t be afraid to ask for references. More experienced and equipped contractors will have plenty of previous customers who will be willing to vouch for their skill and trustworthiness.

No Insurance

If the company is not insured, walk away! No matter how good a technician might be, things can go wrong. If that company is not insured, you’re going to be left with a lot more than you asked for. Make sure the company you choose has the right insurance to cover you and your home to give you peace of mind and be a safety net if something happens to go wrong.
